A FAMILY RUN COOPERATIVE PRESCHOOL

Parent's Morning Out Program

Family Preschool's PMO program begins in September and will operate on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 9:00am until 11:30am. Children who are 1 year old by August 31 but not yet 2 years may attend one or both mornings. While the PMO is a part of Family Preschool, there will be no co-op hours to fulfill as part of participation. In keeping with the central role of family as part of the school, parents will help in the class as Helping Parents several times throughout the school year.

The PMO program hopes to provide each child with a sense of safety, security and enjoyment as each experiences a new setting outside of his or her home. Daily activities will follow a similar schedule each day and will include a free play time when the children can explore the classroom and play or participate in a craft project; a short gathering time in which songs and movement are featured; outside time, and snack. Every morning at PMO children will have many opportunities to exercise their gross and fine motor skills, explore social relationships and integrate more and more verbal communication into their interactions, and broaden their sensory skills.

The following is a list of items each child should bring to PMO:

  • Diapers and wipes. If cloth, please bring a bag for dirties
  • Sunggly or lovey
  • Sippy cup labelled with child's name
  • Ready to eat snack (preferably finger foods rather than jarred baby food)
  • Enrollment in the PMO will be limited to six children on each day. This low adult-child ratio will not only provide more individualized interaction with each child but will also help to foster a calmer environment, making the transition to a first school experience easier for the children.

PMO classes will be balanced by gender if possible. Children are welcome to attend Family Preschool for just the PMO, or the preference to continue into our awesome 2 year old class may be indicated on the application. After submitting an application, registration for the PMO will be complete with the receipt of a contract, $150 supply fee (covering the school year), and a health information form, all of which will be provided by the school Registrars. Monthly tuition is due the first of each month. At this time we are unable to offer scholarship assistance for the PMO class.
